Credits, examinations and grading system

Credits

All study programmes at ISLU can be measured in terms of credit points (In accordance with Tacis-Tempus Project M_JEP-21258-2000 ). A full-time year of study amounts to 60 credit points (30 points per semester) for a study load of about 1.500 to 1.800 hours equal to the ECTS system (see. ECTS package). Each credit point has a study load of 33-35 hours including contact hours. As the study load differs for each year of study, credit points indicate only a relative measure within one particular year of study.

Examinations

 Students take course exams twice a year. Exam period is held at the end of each semester.

Foreign students can be offered different methods of evaluation after consulting with their professors at the beginning of the semester: assessment by means of an essay or continuous assessment of active student participation during classes.

Completion of a course normally means that the student succeeded to pass the final examination, which may be of two types:

- evaluation with grades: 2(failure), 3(satisfactory), 4(good), 5(excellent);
- evaluation as credit "zachteno" or failure "nezachteno".

Both types of examinations may be offered in oral or written form.

Grading system

Every course unit is concluded with either a written or oral examination, or credit test. For the credit test only pass/fail evaluation is used. Students registering for the courses automatically register for the corresponding mode of assessment. A student has to sit up to 5-8 examinations during the session time at the end of each semester. A student who fails the examination is allowed to re-sit it twice.

The ISLU grading scale is based on a number scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). In addition to this 5-point system, the pass/fail system is used.
